This Bible study starts in the 3rd chapter of Luke, which will be the focus of worship at Countryside Community Church (UCC) on October 18th. We’re skipping over chs 1-2 (the birth narrative) and will take it up during Advent. Here’s a link to the Roadside Conversations video commentary on Luke 3. Have fun, and be sure to post questions/comments on the chapter!

Luke 3 "Roadside Conversations" Video Posted
Sunday, October 11th, 2009"Roadside Conversations" Video Commentary Introduction
Sunday, October 11th, 2009Greetings fellow travelers on this journey through Luke! I am pleased to post here as a “world debut” so-to-speak the first installment of “Roadside Conversations: A Journey Through Luke” video commentary, by Bruce Van Blair and Eric Elnes (aka, me). Giving credit where credit is due: this commentary was filmed by Ray Meints and Chris Brown, edited by Ray Meints and myself, and mastered by Ray Meints. As you may observe from the frequency of the name “Ray Meints,” we are especially indebted to him for his copious time and talent devoted to this project. Thank you, Ray!
Each week we’ll post new links to future video chapters, which correspond to Luke’s chapters. Each video is approx 8 – 12 minutes in length and is meant to serve as a SUPPLEMENT to your reading of Luke’s Gospel. We also highly recommend Bruce Van Blair’s Believer’s Road book (available online by clicking the link, or at Countryside Community Church for a suggested donation of $10), as we’ve intentionally tried to steer clear of covering material in the video that is already covered in that book. You’ll be able to find those chapters by either by scrolling down this blog, or by clicking on one of the “categories” on the side of the blog, which take you to all materials posted for the particular chapter of Luke you’re seeking to access.
So … (drum roll please) … here’s the video introduction, which gives some background and explains how the Bible study will operate!

Welcome!
Friday, October 9th, 2009Welcome to the Joy Luke Club blog! This blog will become active on the week leading up to October 18, 2009, and the launch of Countryside Community Church‘s “Joy Luke Club” Bible Study and simultaneous “The Believer’s Road: A Journey Through Luke” worship series. Check here each week for resources to help YOUR study of Luke’s fascinating gospel and to enhance YOUR encounter with Jesus “as if for the first time”!
This blog is maintained and resourced by Countryside’s Senior Pastor, Rev. Eric Elnes, Ph.D. Guest bloggers also are likely to appear from time to time, along with responses to questions YOU post. So post away! We’ll also be posting a VIDEO COMMENTARY called “Roadside Conversations” by Dr. Elnes and Rev. Bruce Van Blair. Each video chapter is approx 8-12 minutes and is meant to supplement Van Blair’s written commentary on Luke, The Believer’s Road: A Journey Through Luke commentary. For those of you in the Omaha area, copies of Van Blair’s The Believer’s Road commentary are available at Countryside Community Church for a suggested donation of $10. Complete list of Van Blair’s books can be found at his BVBMinistries website.
We’ll be moving through Luke at the rate of 1 chapter per week (In other words, with lightening speed. If you don’t think this sounds fast, just wait until you start reading Luke!), starting with Chapter 3. Don’t worry: we’re not skipping the Christmas (i.e., birth narrative) stuff. We’re just going to take it up closer to Christmas time.
