Upcoming worship series – “The Faith of Jesus in a Pluralistic World” – starting May 13

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

“The Faith of Jesus in a Pluralistic World” – Countryside’s upcoming small group sermon series, “The Faith of Jesus in a Pluralistic World” will run for six consecutive weeks beginning the week of May 13. Increasingly, people are recognizing that the survival of the human race depends upon adherents of the major world religions coexisting peacefully with one another. Yet many Christians wonder how peace is possible apart from conversion to Christianity, particularly in light of Jesus’ statement, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Is it possible to take these words seriously without denying the existence of other paths God may create for humanity? The very future of Christianity and civilization may depend upon our answer. In this series, we will discover how this question is being answered and lived in surprising and hopeful ways.

Small Group registration forms will be available beginning April 29 at the table to the left of the main office door. Be watching for additional information on this exciting new series. For additional information, contact Mary Beth at marybethl@countrysideucc.org or at 402-391-0350

Membership Class is Coming up Soon

Are you interested in joining Countryside Church or exploring Countryside more deeply? Then consider joining us for the next membership class on Saturday, May 5, from 8:30 a.m. until
noon. Staff members will be present, and you’ll have an opportunity to learn more about Countryside. The second aspect of membership is to sign up for a small group which will study The Phoenix Affirmations (12 principles for loving God, neighbor and self), so you’ll get to know yourself and God better, too. Multiple groups of 8-12 participants will be formed from the new member group, and you’ll be able to choose yours based on your own time schedule. The commitment is four weeks, after which time you have the option of continuing with the group for another eight weeks at your discretion. (Continued participation is NOT a requirement for membership.)

Small group days and times will be announced at the class—you’ll be able to sign up for the group that best fits your schedule.

21 State, 100 City Tour to Raise Suicide Awareness – Countryside visit

21 State, 100 City Tour to Raise Suicide Awareness

On Wednesday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel, we will welcome Thomas Brown and Zachary Chipps, two dedicated young men who have felt the destructive impact caused by the suicide of a family member. They are on a 7,000-mile pilgrimage across the U.S. to raise awareness and invite participation. Thomas and Zachary met each other in Phoenix, AZ, and were surprised to learn they both had brothers who had committed suicide. This life-changing trauma created a unique bond between the men, which prompted their own call to service.

Their mission is to inspire the transformation in one’s life by creative self-expression, through devoted self-reflection, thus they have titled their pilgrimage Revolution Inspired by Self Evolution (R.I.S.E.). They hope to raise awareness and provide support and understanding to suicide survivors—including adolescents and young adults—letting them know they are a part of a larger community of life.

Join Thomas and Zachary at their Omaha stop in Countryside’s Chapel on May 2. All are welcome— invite your friends. Printed information about this tour is available at the Information Station on Sun- day mornings and in the church office.
