Our Ministries

Worship and Sunday School

The mission of the Children’s Education Department at Countryside Community Church is to support families in the process of teaching their children the love of God, the teachings of Jesus, the history of the church and the responsibilities of being a Christian.   Our goal is to build Bible literacy while encouraging Countryside kids to look for personal connections with scripture.

Your (Kindergartner-6th grade) child’s Sunday school experience will start in worship with you…the parents.  In worship, children will experience what it’s like to be part of our church community (reinforcing that they are a part of something bigger than just Sunday school).  They will have the opportunity to listen to music, participate in singing hymns, welcome/greet others, and join us up front for the Children’s Moment.  School aged children will be dismissed to their individual classes and Sunday school will pick up where worship left off. Once in their classrooms, children will begin with a prayer circle followed by storytelling & reflection.  Classes will then participate in a large group experiential activity in Memorial Hall or the gym.  The large group activity schedule for each month is listed below:

  • 1st Sunday of the month:  Mission/Outreach
  • 2nd Sunday of the month:  Performing/Fine Arts
  • 3rd Sunday of the month:  R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
  • 4th Sunday of the month:  Teambuilding/Physical Activity
  • 5th Sunday of the month:  Family Worship

Countryside Church provides nursery care for infants through two years old and Sunday School classes for children age three through 6th grade, concurrent with the worship service schedule, at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. At the beginning of most worship services, prior to adjourning to Sunday School children Kindergarten and older are invited up onto the chancel steps for a “Children’s Moment,” which is an integral part of the church family worship experience.

Sunday School provides a variety of carefully planned and age-appropriate experiences for each child. Lessons are Bible story based, with many interactive learning activities. Curriculum is supplemented with outreach projects during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. A favorite event each year is Vacation Bible School, for children aged 4 through 4th grade. The week’s program includes music, crafts, Bible stories, food and recreation focused on a specific theme for that week. During our Vacation Bible School week, the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders participate in a learning mission experience called Countryside Street Kids. This takes place at the church and out in the community.

4th Grade

We will be utilizing 4th graders to acolyte at the 9:00 a.m. service only.

6th Grade

The first Sunday of each month is communion Sunday, and we will be utilizing our 6th graders to help serve communion, thus becoming more active and visible in our church’s life and in the eyes of our congregation.  Children will serve September through May.
