Advent Book Study & Poetry Workshop

Learning to Walk in the Dark — Mondays, Nov. 30–Dec. 21 (Study, Reflection & Poetry)

Every Advent we light candles and speak of hope while the world around us is still unmistakably dark. Our Advent theme, Until the Dawn, asks us to stay in that night a little longer — not to rush past it, but to ask what it has to teach us.
Barbara Brown Taylor’s Learning to Walk in the Dark is a fitting companion for this season. Taylor names our long habit of putting God on the side of light and everything we fear on the side of darkness, and then she goes looking for what that habit has cost us: the rest, the dreams, the honesty, the intimacy with God that arrive only when the lights go out. The surprise is that she finds God waiting there too. In this time of anticipation, preparation, and eventual celebration, don’t sit passively waiting to find what God has in store for you — let’s go looking together!
Join Pastor Jenny and Christine Kasel on Mondays, Nov. 30–Dec. 21, 12:00–1:30pm, for conversation, poetry, and the practice of keeping our eyes open in the dark. We’ll close on Dec. 21, the longest night of the year. Bring your lunch if you like. We’ll have coffee and tea to keep your bodies warm and your creativity flowing.

Read along or just come. All are welcome.
