A columbarium is a room that is appropriately respectful, where the earthly remains of church members (ashes) receive care in perpetuity, much like the church cemetery of an earlier time. Many people find great comfort knowing that their ashes are near good people in a religious environment. At Countryside, the columbarium is the small chapel located at the top of the west stairs.
Columbarium FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
How are the niches arranged?
Arrays of “niches” are arranged in rows and columns. Each niche provides space for two urns (i.e., a companion niche). A purchaser who desires space for only one urn still purchases one companion niche and simply doesn’t use the second niche. The cost is the same. The purchaser retains the right to use the other niche.
What guarantee of perpetual care is provided?
The Countryside Community Church Charitable Foundation (i.e., the Foundation) has established a perpetual care trust. This trust exists exclusively to provide funds to maintain the columbarium. A portion of the companion niche cost is set aside in the trust. The Foundation has responsibility for the overall operation of the columbarium.
What is the cost?
Each companion niche costs $2,500 ($2,000 is considered as a charitable contribution to the Foundation). When compared to a traditional burial, this is generally a less expensive alternative.
Can a church member buy additional companion niches?
Yes, because parents and children may live in other cities, or belong to other churches, a family may obtain additional niches. However, only a member of Countryside Church may purchase the companion niches.
How many companion niches will be available?
The initial bank of niches provides 234 companion niches. We have space to add two more banks of niches in the future bringing the total count to 624.
What size urn fits in the companion niche?
The companion niche is 8″ x 8″ x 12″. Each urn cannot be larger than 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 7″. The family provides the urn for the ashes of the loved one. You are free to provide your own urn or they can be purchased from the Foundation at a cost of $50.00 each.
What if I change my mind?
If circumstances change, a $500 refund will be paid for each companion niche released. The additional charitable contribution to the Foundation is nonrefundable.
Are there incentives for prompt decisions?
Yes, the first 100 companion niches sold will be discounted and cost $2,000 ($1,500 is a charitable contribution to the Foundation). We are eager to recover the costs of construction and the first 100 purchases get us well on the way to that goal. Also, the choice of niche location will be made on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
What are the options for identifying each niche?
When a companion niche is purchased, an attractive brass nameplate will be placed on the marble facing of your niche. Three options are available to choose from:
