The Tri-Faith Garden continues to grow—and to give. This year’s garden and orchard harvest has now topped 5,252 pounds of fresh produce donated to local food pantries and community organizations.
Just in the past week, volunteers harvested peppers, okra, beans, kale, bok choy and butternut squash for distribution to UNO
MAV Pantry and Midlands Pantry. Earlier harvests went to Clair Cares Pantry, Intercultural Senior Center and Refugee Women Rising.
There’s growth beyond the harvest, too. Four Autumn Brilliance serviceberries were planted to begin a new green fence between the south end of the Memorial Garden and the future orchard. Volunteers also planted oats as a cover crop and are adding pollinator plants donated by Xerces.
Want to be part of it? Weekly gardening sessions continue Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Come when you can—no sign-up required, and even 30 minutes helps. Tools and gloves are provided; bring water.

“Nature has its own perspective and wisdom that we can neither access nor wholly understand. It
transcends us and remains something other, something holy. And as Job discovered and the Qur’an insists, we cannot know the reality we call “God” without a reverent attention to the “signs” of nature.” ~ Karen Armstrong, from “Sacred Nature: Restoring Our Ancient Bond with the Natural World“
