Discover Awe This Lent: A Transformative Book Study
As we enter the Lenten season, it’s a time for reflection, renewal, and deepening our connection with God. What if, during this time of spiritual growth, we could explore a powerful force that connects us to God and reveals the sacred in our everyday lives? That’s exactly what we’ll be doing in our Lenten Book Study: Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life by Dacher Keltner.
Awe in Our Everyday Lives
We all know what it feels like to experience awe—the feeling of wonder, amazement, or even small moments of reverence. But did you know that awe can profoundly impact your spiritual life and relationships? Dacher Keltner, a renowned professor of psychology at UC Berkeley and the faculty director of the Greater Good Science Center, explores the science of awe in his book. In this Lenten study we’ll dive deep into how awe shapes our hearts, minds, and faith.
Awe can help us feel connected to something greater than ourselves. It opens our eyes to the beauty and mystery of creation, allowing us to experience God’s presence in the ordinary moments of life. As we reflect on these moments of awe, we deepen our relationships, grow in compassion, and see the world—and our faith—in an entirely new light.

The Book Study Details
Our Lenten Book Study will meet on Mondays at noon, beginning March 10 and continuing through April 7. We’ll engage in thought-provoking discussions, reflective practices, and a journey of spiritual growth.
We’ll explore themes of wonder, compassion, and the sacred mysteries of life, all while grounding our study in the hope and reflection that Lent brings. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and allow awe to deepen your faith and understanding of God’s presence in the world.
Why Awe Matters
Keltner’s research shows that awe is not just an emotional experience; it’s a transformative one. Awe can help us experience greater compassion and meaning in our lives as it connects us to others and the world around us. It also leads us to explore life and faith’s deeper, sacred mysteries.
During this book study, we will be challenged to examine how awe shows up in our daily lives and how it invites us to engage with the world through the lens of wonder. It’s a reminder that we can find glimpses of the divine even amid the ordinary.
